Wedding Dress Shopping
I’ve heard some people say that the day you go wedding dress shopping is a day you will never forget. Well let me tell you, that is most certainly the case for me. Although not sure it will be because of the dress shopping experience lol. Let me explain.
It was a beautiful sunny Saturday morning in August and I was getting ready to go wedding dress shopping in the afternoon. I had this planned for over a month so was excited that the day was finally here. I took Maverick (our German Short-haired Pointer) for a walk down at the Yellow River State Forest earlier in the morning. All was good until we ran into another dog off leash that gave us a bit of a fright. We rarely see people on the trails so it was a bit unexpected and it turns out the other dog was a 4 year old shelter dog so very well could have been triggered by another dog. Either way all was good and we carried on with no injuries. We got back home and I got ready to head up to La Crosse to pick up my friend Hannah to head to the first of 2 dress appointments for the afternoon.
It was about 11:30am when I left my house. I took my normal route and was just cruising along listening to one of my favorite podcasts (Sorry, We’re Cyrus) when all of a sudden there was a flash of brown, a large bump, and a deer laying in the lane next to me all in the span of about 2 full seconds. I did not have time to breathe it happened so fast, that thing came out of nowhere! So I am in shock of what just happened, and I drive a little further to a spot where I could safely pull off of the road and call my fiancé. He tells me he is on his way as I inspect the damage to the front of my car. It wasn’t bad and luckily I wasn’t hurt, but my check engine light came on so we felt it was unsafe for me to continue to drive.
I would be lying if I said my anxiety was not through the roof. I probably would’ve cancelled the appointments if I didn’t have people driving multiple hours to meet me. However, once I sprinted into the Wedding Tree, I was greeted with a glass of champagne and immediately felt better. This was the first dress appointment I had been to so the only thing I had to go off of was my wedding Pinterest board. We are getting married out West so I was thinking something simple (because if you know me, I am not about the glam) but maybe a little Western. I tried a little bit of everything which made it super fun. I tried on so many dresses at the Wedding Tree, but none of them really jumped out at me and made me feel like I found “the one”.
After the first stop, we drove over to Charlotte’s Bridal just a few minutes away and I tried on even more dresses. The second stop was a little better because I had more of an idea of what I was looking for and what styles I liked. My mom had found a few dresses that she picked for me to try on and I actually ended up buying one that she picked! I immediately liked it as soon as I put it on (which was the first time this happened) and when trying on dresses after that, I kept wanting to put the one I liked back on. That’s how I knew it was the one. Plus it was under budget!
I can honestly say that I had a great experience at both bridal shops and would recommend them to anyone. Everyone was super great to work with and really helped make the day fun. It was unfortunate that I hit a deer on my way, and I was just not in the best headspace to fully enjoy the experience because I was worried about my car and such, but either way I’m really glad that I found a dress that I do love and am so excited to wear on my wedding day!
Still so crazy that I’m getting MARRIED. Can’t believe it.
