Album Review: Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl

I am actually SO excited about this post. Firstly because I hope I get to do more of these, but secondly because it is my absolute favorite music artist that I am going to talk about (if you know, you know)...MISS TAYLOR SWIFT!

I am a long time fan of hers and am always excited when I hear she is putting out new music. She announced her latest album The Life of a Showgirl in August on Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast New Heights. I’ve now had a whole day to listen to it and decided to do an album review on the blog for anyone interested. Let's get into it!

Track 1: The Fate of Ophelia

-Fantastic. I love this one. I’m a sucker for a pop love song and this is definitely it. Great start to the album and a really fun beat. I could dance around to this one all day.

Track 2: Elizabeth Taylor

-Not sure what I was expecting with this one, but I do enjoy it. I like the reputation vibes and now I feel like I need to Google Elizabeth Taylor and see what she’s all about.

Track 3: Opalite

-Straight banger. Huge fan. This is a dance around your kitchen when you’re home by yourself song. Another pop love song that is just so fun. If you haven’t listened to this one yet, I highly recommend it.

Track 4: Father Figure

-I wasn’t sure about this one at first but now that I’ve listened to it a few times it’s grown on me. It’s very girlboss energy and I feel powerful when I sing along so this will be the song I need to listen to when I pull into my work parking lot in the morning.

Track 5: Eldest Daughter

-Taylor Swift’s track 5 songs are notorious for being the most deep and gut-wrenching, and I feel this one goes right along with that theme. It’s a slower song and the message has potential to cut you like a knife. High chance I will cry in my car to this song at some point that’s just how it goes.

Track 6: Ruin the Friendship

-This song has a little bit of a sad ending but overall I do like it. It kind of takes me back to middle school/high school (not a place I often want to go) but that feeling of thinking about kissing someone and although it never happens, you look back and think you should’ve just done it anyway. It makes me feel like a teenager again.

Track 7: Actually Romantic

-If I had to pick a least favorite, I think this would be it. It’s not bad by any means, I just think I like the others better. I do like the bridge on this one though. Kind of reminds me of Olivia Rodrigo.

Track 8: Wi$h Li$t

-I really like this one. Of course another pop love song but the message and beat are just so fun yet again. Big fan. This one is on repeat for me.

Track 9: Wood

-This one is literally so fun. The beat reminds me of older pop songs and the lyrics are even a little spicy….always a fan of a spicy TS song! It’s a short song but I sure wish there was more.

Track 10: CANCELLED!

-This one also has reputation vibes which I like. It ranks one above Actually Romantic for me. Not my favorite, but also not my least favorite.

Track 11: Honey

-Yet another pop love song that I am jamming to all day (I’m starting to see a theme here lol). Super fun beat and loving love is just what I do so I'm a big fan of this one as well. Classic pop jam.

Track 12: The Life of a Showgirl (feat. Sabrina Carpenter)

-I think this one is the perfect song to end the album. I’m a Sabrina fan as well so I loved to see a collab between them. Not quite as upbeat as some of the others but I do like to sing along to this one.

Overall I really do enjoy this album. Maybe it’s partially because I’m in my engaged and super in love era, but like I said earlier, I’m really just a sucker for upbeat pop love songs. And lucky for me, this album has a few of them! I’m sure my opinions will change over time, but these are my initial thoughts.
